Creativity
starter
Toolkit NHS National Services
Scotland needed to support and develop creative problem solving and
innovation across the organisation at a time of considerable
organisational change. Creative Exchange designed and facilitated
a two-day process to enable staff themselves to Invent a
problem-solving toolkit and to Equip them to introduce it
effectively to the organisation. |
|
 |
Inventing
A group of 25
Inventors was recruited from across the diversity of the organisation to come
together for one day to work with Creative Exchange and each other to
invent the Toolkit. Specific, relevant and useable tools for
creative problem solving and innovation were collected, adapted and
created. The style, format, look and feel were all considered and
agreed upon.

 |
Production
Creative Exchange took
the raw materials, ideas and concepts from this day and produced the
Toolkit in a finished form. Following the wishes of the team, the Toolkit
was produced as a pack of large-format cards, with one tool per card and
plenty of spares with which to record new tools, personalise the
content, and develop the kit beyond the starter set.
The tools were
categorised according to their role in Planning, Problem Solving, People
or Positive Thinking.

|
 |
Testing
As part of their
commitment to the process, the inventing team undertook to use the
Toolkits within their own work and teams to test the usefulness and
applicability of the tools. |
|
 |
Disseminating
Each Inventor
was supported, through participation in an Equipping Day, to take their
enthusiasm and practical know-how out to at least two other leaders in
disparate teams across the organisation. These disseminators thus
introduced the toolkit and its use into over 50 teams throughout the
organisation.
